I'm Going to Write a Screenplay

I have a friend named CHIP who read my book. And every other week or so he calls me to tell me to write the screenplay for my novel. LIke, he kind of lays into me. He asks me what else I have going on and then the tells me to drop those things and get to work on the screenplay. He is badgering me in the best way. He doesn't stay on the phone long--he just says his piece and sees where I am on it and reiterates his message and then hangs up.

I'm grateful. God damn, we need people on our side, people believing in and championing nad nudging -- shoving -- us toward where they and we ourselves know we would like to travel. So I'm going to write this screenplay, even though I don't know how to write a screenplay.

Any advice?

I always saw the book cinematically. In fact, at one point in my many-years process of writing the novel, I stopped for a spell to try to write the screenplay. I didn't know what I was doing--I mean, even less than I did writing the novel. So I resumed my prose. But Murray belongs on the screen, because Murray deserves a larger audience. And under the direction, the screen version could surpass the novel.

Anyway, thank you to Chip, thanks for being in my court, believing in my work, knowing what it means to me, and being incredibly persistent in making sure I got the message!
